wife captures husband's true self ...

this is ben ... meet ben

retired deputy sheriff, ben

Before retirement, Ben was a deputy sheriff. Shall we say he lived a bit on the “hard” side.

Ben’s wife, whom he met at work (she was a dispatcher), began her own part-time business in arts and crafts in the early 90s, just for the fun of it. For years she and a friend had a very lucrative business.

One day, Ben's wife saw a picture that so reminded her of her husband, she had to paint a rendition of it.

This is Ben’s portrait painted by his wife in 1994. Now, Ben’s wife and sister were nicknamed Brat I and Brat II (she being Brat II) by their father; and Brat II is how she signed this portrait that she lovingly painted of her husband.

It has hung on their wall for all these 21 years without a frame; now it’s framed and looks like a new piece of artwork. Maybe framing Ben’s portrait will cause his wife to come out of arts and crafts retirement and start painting again. It could happen.

now ben had a hobby

He loved to work on old cars and trucks. He’d fix ‘em up good as new in his country garage and send ‘em on their way. Country scenes such as this were scattered all over the region when I was growing up.

I love the frame chosen for this painting.

The wood tone matches the wood tones that his wife painted in the picture. And if you look carefully, you can see some distress marks on the frame that have been enhanced with the same yellow-green tones as was used in the painting. Another image from ’94, that looks like new, will once again take its original spot on the living room wall - lookin’ good.

You must admit - a great job I do have.

I’ve been stretching a lot of needlework. Hope to share photos of the completed works very soon.

I would love to feature photos of things that I have framed for you. Just email the image to me along with a little story, and I will publish it in the “archives” section of the website. It really is a lot of fun to share your projects with others; and others love to see what’s been done.
